Pole stiffness.
Are poles made to be gripped at the top? Would holding on 13'3'' on a 13'6'' 155 be better than holding at 13'3'' on a 14 150?

That is a great question as 13'3"is in the area on both

13'3" is within the grip area on most 13'6" poles and also on most 14' poles. It depends on the stiffness and how it reacts with you. They both could be very simalar in stiffness.. However in this case you should always "go for the power before the length."
If you weigh 155 you need to be on the 13'6"-155. If you weigh 150 the 13'6"-155 might support a better push off.
If you weight less (depending on the flex soft-med-stiff) the 14-150 might provide a little more grip. Of course more grip will not be efficient unless you are already jumping at least 14' or higher on either pole.
If you ["Go for the Power before the length"you stand a better chance of developing better technique.

i'm 5'7" 150lbs.. last summer i got on a 14' pole, it was a 13.5 flex.. so, about a 190.. i put a good foot on 4.92 (16') on a 13'11" grip, (i have video).. if i ever grew the kahuna's to hold higher i might be a good vaulter someday.. let's hope age doesn't catch up to quickly.. the the point is, i weigh 150, i was on a 190, you get it...

Really two main ways to bend bigger poles - one (not preferred) is to be under, lever like crazy and go for the big bend - squat on it and you can bend - maybe not get much penetation - the other is speed - since the velocity is a squared term in the force equations - increase in speed really is the big factor (assuming you also plant half way decent) - especially for the vertically challenged - speed - speed - speed - that is why younger and older vaulters do not jump on poles rated 10-20 lbs over - speed is still developing or in my case - long gone - yes there are other factors - but none as important as speed (velocity)
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times
