Hi to everyone, this is my first post so try to be nice.
Well I am getting into the Pole Vault again after a long time off.
Here is my story.
Was a fair vaulter a few years back jumping 14ft off a 13ft hand grip at 17 years old and all was going well and was working on getting onto a bigger pole all up until I played a game of rugby and dislocated my shoulder really bad and could not vault. 1 year later I had and operation (you have to wait that long for an opp in this country) and was getting back into vaulting and it dislocated again.
Well 20 dislocations later and 3 operations they think it is fixed so its time to vault again.
Would like to know how many times a week you lot train and how many are jumping, running, weights etc.
Also what do you all think I should do first when starting to jump again,
short run up and just do the take off for a while ( plant and drive)???
Sorry if this post has bored you too much.
Owen

Looks like me and your were in the same boat, i had surgery on my shoulder because i dislocated my shoulder fallin into the box. Rehab and 3 months of PT is all it took, but for vaulting, i went back to the sand pit and learned basics again. From there i did 3 to 4 step drills and LOTS and LOTS of pole runs to get my speed back. I didn't do full jumps until maybe 2 months ago (i was lukcy i was only out for a 6 or 7 months if u can say.) The key is, do ur stretched, stop when it hurts and take it easy. Finally...have fun
