So ive heard of people and camps doing dock vaults into the water instead of a mat. Im curious as to what degree of vaulting they do and what it consists of. Do you plant the pole into the water, or have a box on a dock. Are they actually on a dock or does a strip of good ole grass work as well. How deep is the water. How do you not land without doing a back buster? Quite a few questions i know... I'm just trying to figure out what actually constitutes a dock vault.

There have been some vault exhibitions on docks but those included a pit and raised runway.
IIRC, there was a video of Pat Manson jumping off a dock posted on here years ago. It was really just a method to get in the water. No bar or bungee.

I've done it.
Plant the pole in the water. Land feet first. Water has to be deep enough. Grass wouldn't work because the water wouldn't be deep enough.

Did you get inverted or anything or should you avoid that. I feel like the pole would be slowed down tremendously if planted in water too deep.

If it's a safe setup you can invert but don't try it the first few times. The pole speed is just relative to your grip and the height of the dock. You have to play around with it a little to find the right combo.
