How much warmup time is needed?

In a meet, how much warmup time should X vaulters get? I think 1min/vaulter (30 vaulters = 30min) isnt quite enough. but 2min/vaulter is probably a bit high.

So what say you? How much warmup time should the following vault fields get:
1. 15 vaulters
2. 30 vaulters
3. 45 vaulters

I think it makes a difference if it's a high school or college meet. I've had high schoolers miss the whole warmup period, and just do pole runs and take their one run through and be fine.

45 minutes
1 hour
1 hour 15 minutes

Or until everyone is fully prepared (if that is earlier), I'll give any group an extra 5 minutes to get one more run through if that will help them all mentally feel ready to vault

When I'm running a high school meet I'll give them 30mins. If its only a duel or double duel meet, then they are usually done sooner. If its a bigger meet, then they'll just have to be efficient with their warmup. 30-40 jumpers can get 3-4 jumps in during a half hour period. Its not a place to work on technique or improve aspects, its a warm-up period. If you weren't prepared coming into the meet then you won't figure it out at the meet.

I realize if its a windy day, it may take more time to dial in your steps and whatnot, and I usually allow a bit extra time for that. I also realize that someone having an off day could take several attempts to get their steps on, but with that many jumpers, we could be there all night, get the meet moving and learn to adapt.

I always limit my guys to 3-4 jumps regardless during warmups...

Hrmm, thats tough. I think it depends on the quality. If its a higher end HS meet, yes. Most normal HS meets you get clowns running their steps back, checking TOs on the runway while talking to their coach.. many times my kids are first on the runway and get 1-2 jumps in that timeframe with that many vaulters.

Agreed, if even that. If the kid takes 1 jump and its perfect, why keep jumpin?

because hopefully they are taking their first jumps down a pole or two, and if they have a good coach/selection of poles, they will probably do one or 2 straightpole/short approach drills.

I dont count the handful of 6 step drills we always do... I think a vast majority of people do that.

But if you have that normal warmup pole that you blow through a lil bit, and you blow through it the same amount you always do, that means your run is on, your timing is normal.. you're ready.
