Old Pole Vault memory

Unread postby Glory » Wed Apr 09, 2008 9:07 pm

So I have been vaulting for about 8 years now..for some reason i was remembering back when i was in highschool seeing someone put their pole in the box then flip it end over end several times to mark their step..I was curious if anyone out there had seen this or any other weird pole vault related things..just curious..thought it was a funny memory

i do that to find my steps after 3 lefts. the distance between my left foot strikes is 13', so i just use my pole to measure instead of running back. I do get some funny looks though when I do it.

While I was working my first Bronco Invite, I almost got flattened by a girl on a brand new pole...OUCH  and watching Emily Mattoon jump for the first time

Marking Steps

Unread postby drcurran » Fri Apr 11, 2008 10:04 am

Back in the day! We used our pole all the time to mark steps. Example would be - 4 pole lenght + part of a pole length which we marked on the pole with tape. Worked great - "we don't need a tape measure" !
I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!
