Jumps higher in summer. Why?

My son has been pole vaulting for 2 seasons now. In '06 he jumped 10'6" at the state meet. By July he was up to 13'. This year he went 13'6" at the state meet. Now he is already up to 15'. Why does he jump higher in the summer and what can we do to get the big PR at the state meet not 4 weeks later?

It sounds like he is still young in the development process and he is coming along nicely!

i took about 1 month off of jumping and that let my body recoup pretty well, and I'm already skimming a 17' bungee, and I was only jumping aroud 16' in season. Also, by summer athletes usually have tons of training under their belt, and the rest is good for their bodies, which might be why we jump a bit higher

Hey Jerry! From a friend who knows you and your son.. And from a coaches standpoint... There is no school or distraction to think about.. He loves the sport... Its more fun to go to the meets in a relaxed atmosphere... And he is devepling nicely and putting some jumps together... Not bad for a lefty! Haha! :) Best of luck bro!
