A man once told me "The only real cool people on the track team are the vaulters". They are "creepy", he says and I think he is right. We are different from the rest of the bunch. We have a little something extra in us to make us want to feel that rush. O by the way this man I am talking about is Doug Sharpe, Bronze medal winner of the 2002 winter Olympics in Salt Lake City Utah, my former coach, and wacky dude.

yeah, vaulters are definetely a "unique" group....but it's cool, it makes it more of a community...i mean look here, tons and tons of posts and people just talking about ONE event...to me thats just awesome

Tell Doug that Bryan Carrel says hello. Where is he at now? Last I heard he was coaching at the U of Louisville.

You are correct though......he is truly a madman.....you should have seen him in college!!!!!!!!

The athletic director at my school here at UofA once told us vaulters, "You kids have to be the craziest sons of bitches I know." Besides this Ive never heard him say a cuss word in his life!

Yeah, you definitely have to be a little crazy to fling yourself into the air with a pole. My sports medicine doctor guy told me I was nuts and that he had a friend in college that was a vaulter and he was a real wierdo. And when people at school ask me about it, they always tell me they'd be afraid to try it, I don't know why... And the people are great! We are all very friendly and outgoing and unified, I love it!

yeah, vaulting has to be the best thing ever. the way i got into it. it was my freshman year in high school. and it was like the first or second day of track. and they were splitting us up so we can see who is going to do what. and they called for polevaulters. and i was like "i have nothing to lose" and i have been addicted sence then. yeah everyone else is kinda normal its scary, and then when you get people to convert it doesn't take them long to change.

Hey Becca I am back posting now...I finally got some time and now I have to post like the mad vaulter I am. Our head coach loves the vaulters because we are the craziest people on the team but yet the hardest workers out on the team. Its Great!
