Pole Vault fiction/movies

Unread postby Cheyla~PVC » Sat Jul 09, 2005 12:09 am

There are always fictional books our there about people who do all kinds of other sports, but does anyone know if there are ANY out there with people in them who pole vault? I've never come across any and I'm a major reading nerd.

Anyway, if there aren't any now, I am hoping there will be soon. I am spending my summer writing a memoir of my experiences vaulting and the fun memories I share with my vaulters. So - in a few years you vaulters all look for it! We all hope that they'll want to turn it into a movie, like Prefontaine or Remember the Titans or something...how cool would that be?

I read a book over thirty years ago entitled "The Comeback Kid". It was a great book about a kid who took up pole vaulting to overcome his failure to get picked as a male cheerleader. The action takes place in the days of aluminum poles and sawdust pits. I talked to the librarian at my old high school recently, and she said the pole vaulters still read the book!

Do you know who the author was, by any chance? I've been searching all over the net to find this book and knowing the author's name would help.
Thanks!

Sorry I don't remember the author's name. The book has most likely been out of print for about 40 years. If I get a chance to talk to the librarian back home, I'll let you know. The book would be considered hoky by today's standards, but I enjoyed it enough to remember it 30 years later.

I'd enjoy reading it. I'm sure it would give anyone vaulting today a good laugh. Thanks for finding out the author.

I read part of this book by someone named Chey, i think. She started to write about some pretty crazy people and their really strange times together. They were called the PVC, and were really good vaulters, friends, and a few of them are really good at making people "angry"!! hahahahaha ;)
