Open Question
The only problem with singling out vaulters to watch, is that they may not vault like you do. For example, Hartwig tucks and then shoots, while your Bubka and Tarasov, two guys who aren't pushovers in the least, have a constant swing. Another like Bubka is Ty Harvey. I like to watch Hartwig though, because my style is like his. Both are great though
Yeah, i'd definetely have to agree with the last two posts. Vaulting is very much a smooth motion, and my coach does not encourage us to look for "big" positions, but rather that whole section of the vault. For instance i watch markov with his timing of the pole in his drop, so that would include all the way up until he leaves the ground, so in effect, the smoothness that is addressed is played into that section of the vault. As for the styles, everyone does have their own style, and to some extent should be catered to that style, but it is to an extent. I personally am a fan, as mentioned, of tarasov, bubka, and markov (very russian vaulter i guess, lol). But thats me. Apparently tuck and shoot works for some (hartwig), but for me, i try to emulate more of the russian style vaulting
