And also it depends on what your interests are. Are your interests are just purely in doing something athletic? Or are you looking for a sport that has the same kind of thrill and adrenaline that pole vaulting provides

Hang gliding!
Once you do your first solo you will be addicted.
Cost:
Used glider=$800 to 1,000
Used harness with reserve=$300
Lessons (optional but recommended)= $500-1,000
The concentration in the launch and landing is a lot like the vault and hang gliding is free once you have all the gear.

Try Racquetball. If your are competitive and you like a good workout this works well, it can be year round. And the better you get the better your workout will become. you can compete in tournaments and have a great time. I know I am 57 and in great shape because of it.

I don't know... What's wrong with pole vaulting?
IMHO, something comparable will requires some skills BEFORE starting to perform/compete like skating/hockey, skiing/snowboarding/ski jumping or water polo.
(Almost) everyone can do bungee jumping - no skills required.

Depends what it is about pole vaulting that you are trying to retain with your new activity. The physical demand? Mental discipline and training? Focus/intensity? Thrill?

That was an amazing video. Not much room for error there!

It's too bad, but base jumping is illegal in most of the US because of our lawsuit-happy culture. I like how in Europe, if you want to kill yourself practicing a dangerous sport, you have every right...

Paragliding could be a tamer alternative for people who like the idea of flying, but don't want to end up splattered (like those crazy Euros almost did a few times). Kiteboarding looks like a lot of fun, too. People do that on the coast here in Oregon a lot, but it seems like fly-fishing for great white sharks to me...

I think I'll stick to safer sports like rock climbing and pole vaulting
