REALLY old pole vault video and pics?
Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could see some good pictures or even film of ol' timey pole vault, like 1900-1960 with steel and bamboo poles. Vaultworld has a couple cool pics but I'd love to see some footage of the vault before fiberglass. Anyone know where to look?
My favorite film footage like that...at least film footage that I know is generally available...is the Orra McMurray Video. It has jumps from the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's. It's silent and 30 minutes long.
It's available from www.ontrackandfield.com. Item number V86-2. You can also call Ron Morris at 800-697-2999 to order it. I like to use this video as for teaching. My favorite technician is Kjell Isaksson. He's shown twice on this video (the one outdoors at 18-2 has got to be one of the most flawless jumps...technically speaking...ever recorded). I slow that one down and discuss it frame by frame with my vaulters.
Best regards,

You should talk to Dave Butler. He is really interested in that kind of stuff.
About 15 years ago I took all of my old super-8 film (mostly high school track meets and basketball games) to a photo/video store and I had them transfer it to vhs. Not long ago, I had the vhs transferred to cd.
If you were to get those super-8's from the 70's transferred to vhs and/or cd, I'll bet you'd find a modest market for them (right here on polevaultpower).
