If I were you I'd move the standards back to 70 or 80 on the 15'3 180 pole. It looks like you could stay a little tighter to the pole as it recoils to get a lot more out of that 180. Try pulling your toes down towards your face as you are inverting (another way of saying to drive your heels up and stay tight). I think you may have cleared 15'6 on one of those jumps if the standards were a little farther back.

No need to move up to the 185 until you are knocking the bar off on your way up with the standards at 80. Then you will be ready for the bigger pole! Standards at 50cm is a little scary...I like to keep 60cm as an absolute minimum. Doesn't do you much good to be way over the bar if you are landing in the box.

Good luck,
Tom

You are leaning back at take-off. That's why you're cartwheeling off of the top and have to pull your standards up so close. Work on finishing your take-off so you can keep pressure on the pole and time up your swing to catch the energy on top.

Tom, thanks for the review. I did realize that I made a bad coaching call after moving up to the 185. I am coaching myself so its a tab bit tougher. I felt like a blew threw my pole more than I thought.

AVC, by finishing my take off, do you mean holding the take-off position longer? Correct me if i'm wrong but it feels like i'm getting to the top of the pole too soon?

Any advice helps.

Thanks again.

Sorry I'm just now replying to this post. I don't know how I lost track of it.

Yes. You're getting in a little bit of a hurry and starting the swing too soon. Instead of thinking about holding the takeoff position, just think about dragging that take-off leg. Everything needs to be moving throughout the jump. Compared to what you're doing now, the beginning of the swing will probably seem like an eternity but give it some time to gel and you'll be swinging faster than before....and on time.

Good luck.
