Ever wonder what would happen if you took a world class long jumper and taught them how to vault??
Here is his 2nd practice.

I've had some experience with great long jumpers trying to learn to vault. In almost every instance they struggle to ever run full speed with the pole and jump. The box just comes at them too fast for them to feel comfortable executing the jump. I have always wanted to get a great long jumper who was not terribly fast - one of those powerful bounding long jumpers who might feel more comfortable on the runway with a pole.

Despite the exagerations of some athletes and coaches regarding different vaulters' long jumping ability, I believe the "official" long jump / pole vault world record is held by Ruhan "the blow machine" Isim who learned to vault and ended up with a pr of 5.70m (18'8) after already jumping over 8m (26') in the long jump. But like most of those fast long jump guys, he never learned to vault at full speed. If he had the world record would be held by a Turk.

Erki Nool (Estonian Decathlete) had a LJ PR of 8.22 (27'0) and 5.60 PV PR (18'4.) He is the highest combo I have personally heard of. I think Derek Miles also has a pretty good LJ PR--somewhere in the 24'7 range I think. LIke Barto, I think alot of the other hyper-bole you here is bulls***.

According to Petrov Bubka could long jump around 23ft from 10steps...
The athlete I am working with doesn't really have any interest in pursuing pole vaulting, just wanted to try it out.
