Crazy Russian gymnast, High School Sophomore PR of 10’6”
Opening Height 9’0” out at 10’6”
7 step run
Pole: 125lbs 11ft Purple in color, one jump on a 120lbs 12ft pole (coaches note: she has only had two day of practice on that pole before the meet, not there yet but could be on it by the end of the next week.)
She is:120lbs, 5’3” tall

Personally I think she is moving to fast through her swing/inversion and not staying with the pole long enough to reach the apex of her vault. Plus she need to be more of and active vaulter at the end and not just get thrown over (missing the turn, pull, push)

Take a look and let me know what I could do to slow her down and get her towards are new goal of 11’ or 11’6” a reachable goal by the end of season. Or just talk her up she is a great not only as and athlete and teammate but as a student.

Thanks

She's under on every jump.

I think you're worrying too much about the top half of her vault.

Instead, I would focus on teaching her the free takeoff, and good body position passing thru the C position. From there, a good swing and inversion will come quite naturally ... without much coaching or focussing necessary ... especially with her superb gymnastics ability.

She can't "stay with the pole" unless her body posture in the C is correct. She can't be taking off under, and she can't be leaning back at the start of her downswing. The longer these issues are ignored, the harder they'll be to fix later.

I didn't slo-mo the vid, so I'm not entirely sure, but I think in addition to her takeoff, there's a lot of work that can be done to improve her plant too. Her run seems fine ... it's all that she can handle at the moment. Just improve the plant and takeoff!

What Kirk said will fix this problem easier than what i have to say, but still in the second half of her vault, went she gets stuck on her swing she is not pushing upwards, she is actually pulling in a desperate attempt to invert. Tell her it's just like the first half of a kip on a high bar, and that she needs to push up with both hands during her entire swing.
