6P - 11-8-08 - More Gym Drills and Skills

Unread postby joebro391 » Sat Nov 08, 2008 9:42 pm

hey guys, this was the first time i went to the gym with an actual list of stuff to do. i pretty much show what each set of exercises, layed out in my November Workout, in my Blog Thread. This video is a combination of last night, and today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ea4QReXthg

Nothing too special. This is how i felt about everything, some of it's a bit more obvious than other things though haha

Bubka's on Rings: these felt a lot more powerful than in the past so i'm happy about that. the only thing that i notcied, that except for maybe 1 or 2, i'm always "looking up" meaning, my head, and in turn, shoulders, never "drop back" all the way. Are my suspicians correct?? Not to say that i should "whip" my head back, but it should eventually come back, all the way, right??

Extensions on Rope: I really like this drill haha. the only thing i'm wondering about is: does this promote a "tuck to shoot" in my vault? NOW, because i feel this is more of a strength exercise than a technique exercise, i'm pretty sure that it doesn't matter, but I just want to make sure ;) Is it possible to do this exercise, more like a swing to invert??

Rope Swings: Another drill that i like, but i think today, i was jumping a little far away from the rope (kinda like taking off, out haha). But i really liked the swinging motion in my trail-leg, so this exercise isn't going anywhere at the moment

Hip Circle: this was just a warmup for what's next (i guess this is a...agility?? haha)

Cast-Hip Circle to handstand: yea...i have to work on this haha. when i look at it on video, it wasn't that bad of an attempt haha. It was one of my first attempts, so i'll keep working on it and keep you posted haha

Extensions on Floor: This is a fun drill. I really focused on pressing UP, as strait as i could and holding (which i did well on except for the second one  )

Bubka's on High Bar: i couldn't help myself. I personally like this drill, when i look at the video, i can see a direct corrolation between the drill and the vault. Plus my coaches want me to continue to do it. I think they really IMPRINT into my brain, the "swing to invert" and you can see, in the last one, that i was trying to get that "pre-stretch" in my shoulders.

So there you have it guys. Feel free to leave any tips and comments . -6P

I'll comment more tomorrow. For now I'd like to say to keep in mind that you should put the most important drills you do first... if two tie, put the more physically exerting one first.

Do you not find Bubkas on a high bar more physically exerting than everything else? It is certainly more important than rope extensions and rings, maybe it ties with some others... it would be near the beginning of my workout.

I do these in order or importance, which really, TO ME, is about the same as level of difficulty. The bubka's on the High-Bar, are much less demanding than then on the rings. REMEMBER, that i'm still testing this out this workout, so some tings might be modified. I can't remember what order i put the things on the video in, but i'll tell you the order of which i did the exercies, importance and difficulty.

IMPORTANCE TO ME (as per simulating the actual vault):
Bubka's on rings
Bubka's on High Bar
Extensions on Rope
Rope Swing-drill
Extensions on Floor
Hip Circle Push to handstand

DIFFICULTY TO ME (as per how much each rep takes out of me):
Bubka's on Rings (because of the constant motion)
Extensions on Rope (10 of these makes me burn haha)
Hip Circle Push to Handstand (i still have to get used to these)
Rope Swing-drill (just the run kind of tires me out, and then i can't really jump off right away)
Bubka's on High-Bar (not much motion, only strains the abs a bit)
Extensions on Floor (these are like nothing to me)

ACTUAL ORDER OF PERFORMANCE:
Hip Circle Push to Handstand (just cause i knew i had to be most precise with these)
Bubka's on Rings
Extentions on Rope
Rope Swing Drill
Extensions on Floor
Bubka's on High-Bar (people were on the bar so i skipped it)

So there you have my reasoning. I can't remember what order they are on the video, but i just picked footage from yesterday and today so the order might be a little out of whack
