well here it is guys, i personally....am not that thrilled though. during the practice, the jumps felt good, and i was happy...but to me, the footage looks crappy. idk, maybe i'm wrong. you guys take a look

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUk1VfA1bDg

JUMPS:
1. Pole: 14' 155
Grip: 13'6
Run: 7 Lefts from 94'6
Bungee: 14'
2. Pole: 14' 155
Grip: 13'6
Run: 7 Lefts from 94'9
Bungee 14'6
3. Pole: 14' 145 (PACER) - BAIL OUT
Grip: 13'6
Run: 7 Lefts from 94'9
Bungee: 14'6
4. Pole: 13' 155
Grip: 12'6
Run: 7 Lefts from 54'9
Bungee: 10'???
5. Pole: 13' 155
Grip: 12'6
Run: 7 Lefts from 54'9
Bungee: 10'??

idk, they don't look good. like, i was jumping ONTO the pole, instead of rising with it. I WAS DEFFINATELY PULLING A LITTLE BIT. is the pole to soft?? or was i out?? idk, that's what you guys are here for haha, jk jk.

Bill Hartley eventually ventured over and told me to do short runs, focusing on being tall at take-off so i could invert better and what not. those felt relly good haha. you can tell by his voice at the end that he was mad that i wasn't doing that all practice. this coming thursday, i'm gonna dedicate to short runs haha

so let me know what you all think. MUCH LOVE!!! . -Joe

PS: i FINALLY cleared 14' but didn't get it on film )=

You look like Lukyanenko-flamingo... dropped your drive knee on all of those jumps, and muscled into a halfway decent (but not powerful) looking drive of your hips. If you continue to drop your lead knee, you will not be able to drop-drive your shoulders (unless you really do have the ULTIMATE six pack). This will give you the power you need from that drive, and you will need to get on some stiff 15'ers for sure. Again, your swing is 'bouncy'... not a good thing! Fix that drive knee for good with those short vaults, then slowly back up, step by step...

could please describe to me what a "bouncy" swing is?? i remember you mentioned it once before, but i feel i could fix it easier, if i better understand it.

and yea, i'm gonna dedicate thursday to shorts runs, and working back. probably no 7 or 6-left runs {nods} if any 6-steps, it'd be on a 13' pole or a very light 14'. -Joe

Hey 6P,

Besides PV skills, another skill that will help you is "Search..." skills on PoleVaultPower.

I also didn't know what PP meant by "bouncy swing", so I just entered those two words into the Search box in the top right corner of this page, and voila - I found his explanation in less than 5 seconds!

:)

only 7 results come up when i do that and only 1 is remotely helpful. and that's the 1 post by PP on the subject. and since, according to him, it's his own term, i'd like an elaboration and interpretation of his "bouncy swing" ...either that ...or i'm a very slow child...whichever hahaha

6P, the one from PP is the one I'm referring to. Not much on content, but big on promise. He's foreshadowing, so your question to him was spot on, it's just that you shouldn't expect him to repeat himself. Maybe he's forgotten that he didn't fully explain "bouncy swing".

Show him that you're listening, show him that you haven't forgotten what he's already told you, show him that you know how to use the Search feature, remind him about what he may have forgetten himself, show him that you're eager for further clarification, and remind him that you're waiting for something that he's promised in the near future - like he does to me sometimes. Ha! Ha! :D

Here, let me try ...

Hey PP, in my "Okay Guys, i'm Stummped. Please Help" thread a couple weeks ago, you were talking about me having a "bouncy swing" ...
powerplant42 wrote:It only feels like you're not jumping 'up' because you feel too much 'in-ness' from dropping the lead leg. You have what I call a 'bouncy' swing. Brad Walker also has a 'bouncy' swing, but for different reasons... Your swing path kind of looks too much like a right angle. I'll be using this term a lot in the future, I'm glad I've got an opportunity to introduce it now.

Hey PP, this is the 2nd time you've mentioned that I have a "bouncy swing", but I'm still unclear on the concept. Could you elaborate, please?

Now if that doesn't draw PP out to explain his "bouncy swing" concept, then I don't know what will!

The only difference between the way you worded it and the way I worded it is that I quoted his original post, to refresh everyone's memory on the context of your clarifying question.

Good luck to you in your quest for improving your technique, 6P. Keep training hard, keep the positive attitude, and keep up your thirst for knowledge (in other words - keep bugging us with your vid reviews), and you're going SKY-HIGH next season!!! And keep your coach in the loop on all this too!

Here's a better picture of what I'm calling a 'bouncy swing':

Let's say we have a vaulter with a perfectly fine run, carry, grip, and pole. They plant alright too, but then they make a mistake when taking off, not really due to any factors before, just a technical weakness during take-off only... (Obviously, a mistake early in the vault will screw up the rest.) For whatever reason :star: , the vaulter drives forward into the pole too far as they swing. The result is a non-circular appearing swing, much more like an 'L'... The vaulter is 'picked up' by the pole, and cannot quite catch up (not to mention beat) the bend, resulting in a lower clearance.

:star: Brad Walker's reason for a bouncy swing is that he tucks his knees in during his swing, resulting in a disproportional amount of drive. YOUR reason is typically your drive-knee dropping.

Does that make things clearer?

(And thank you for asking so formally and nicely! ;) )
