New Video, Around 14ish

Sorry for the bad filming (especially the second jump)

This is the first time I jumped in about 20 days. I had been training on my sprinting and some weightlifting.

I think the improvement I see is the relatively straight left leg (compared to my previous vaults). However, I am still having a hard time getting ON TOP of the bend. I kind of just flag out at the top. I don't really see the pole propelling me very far. I never get that catapult feeling. Any suggestions?

You're running under yourself, then you run yourself under. Fix those two things and you'll have a pretty nice looking vault. Also, narrow your grip a little bit, it seems way too wide... shoulder width approximately.

Thanks for the post, powerplant. What do you mean exactly by "You're running under yourself, then you run yourself under." Could you elaborate? Thanks again.

Sure. You are not running correctly because you are not running 'in front' of yourself. You need to reach out and PULL through each stride. Do a little research for more explanation, that information is all over this board. You are 'under'. You have a free take-off (almost, at least), but you are under. I think this is worse than compressing the pole before take-off, but that's an untested opinion. IT MUST BE FIXED if you hope to jump high, unless you plan on being as fast and strong as Britts.

I am on a 14'7" 140 UCS. Weigh around 135.

But yea, I am always under. Just a bad habit that I find hard to break.

When you say pull through each stride, do you mean pull with the legs? Also, am I leaning back as I run? Should I be leaning a little more forwards to be 'in front' of myself?

Thanks for the help guys.

You will find that the more you lean forward, the more difficult it becomes to run 'in front' of yourself. I did not see that you were leaning back.

And as I said, you should research the topic of approach technique, as it has been slaughtered on this board. Maybe salvage an old thread so we can discuss it there.

And you MUST FIX YOUR TAKE-OFF. Do whatever it takes. I find that 2-3 left Jagodins are an excellent place to start. A few hundred of those and you're ready to move back to 4.

Dude... just go back to running basics... w/o pole first. then hit up a shot put. run with a shot put in front of ya. Learn to run. Penetrate, cause it looks like you are getting sucked under. and jump at take-off.
