Bottom arm crashing across face at takeoff

13' 155 sky pole, holding 12'3, 5 or 6 lefts, take off is at 9'ish. Standards at 25.

*At take off the vaulter's bottom hand (left) does not resist and comes in front of the vaulter's face and goes to across his body. Only after that does the bottom hand begin to resist...

Trying to see what to do with his takeoff, I know he needs to get his hands up more...His swing is a 'sit' too...

Here's 10'-11', sorry for the 25 seconds before the 11' vault. Ignore the sound...

Looks like he's pulling with it a little. Jumping and holding take-off position from 2 or 3 steps out with emphasis on the left arm pushing up with the top hand should really help clear a lot up.

agreed with the above, but this problem could also be due to a late plant and just plain planting to the right. plant a little bit earlier and practice planting with your right hand above your head with your right bicep touching your temple and plant that left arm as high as possible but let it plant to the left far enough so that you can drive your chin forwards in order to let your chest drive in. that should straighten in out. ordinarily vaulters wouldnt focus on moving there left arm to the left a little bit at the plant but some vaulters have problems planting straight and this always fixes it. good luck

Just a quick question... was this meet at York? I noticed you're from Oak Park, so maybe we've vaulted together (I'm from Naperville).

No, it was at Fenton. I live in Oak Park. I coach at a h.s. nearby. Oddly enough I went to York though...
