You begin to swing as soon as you leave the ground, maybe even before that. Your step is under, so your body is already at an angle when you leave the ground, then you swing from that position. Try to leave the ground completely upright and tall, and extend your trail leg the same way it would come behind you if you were long jumping. The power of your take off and your swing will at least triple and i could see you jumping at least 1 1/2 feet higher.

Agreed.

Hips come in early and your swing is only a portion of what it could be.

Thinks of it as a pitching wedge vs. a long range driver in golf. You get more energy with a driver and a FULL swing, rather than a pitching wedge which is usually a partial swing to make the ball only go a short distance. We only swing the long driver in the vault!!

hope that analogy helps :)

Get a free take-off and a lot of problems might get rid of themselves (with a little coaxing... ;) )
