Concordia Classic 2013

Unread postby vaultdawg2014 » Tue Jan 29, 2013 3:14 pm

Here are all of my jumps in order:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... e=view_all

Heights, standards, pole/grip/runway information are all in the descriptions.

Things I see immediately:
1) Runway/Takeoff/Plant
-low knees on last steps
-low carry
-atrocious pole carry (top arm almost fully extended behind me! )((I was happy with my plant during the last vault practice we had, but I don' know where it went!!!))
-blocking out (I don't row back into pole, so I get put flat on my back)
2) Swing
-not always there, sometimes straighter, but always breaks too early
-I don't get rocked back all the way
3)Invert
-hips stop rising, many passive phases.....
-I don't stay close to the pole, and I tend to shoot out
4) Flyaway
-sometimes more relaxed than others but usually less than controlled

Any feedback is appreciated!

I think you summed it all up pretty well yourself. But you know it is not difficult to improve your plant - just a few thousand reps doing it correctly!

hey man, i jump about the same height as you and my vault looks sort of similar to yours. some things ive been working on are:

1.Jumping up at plant moving closer and closer to a free takeoff (havent got there yet) -i use a towel at practice at my takeoff point (12ish) and try to inch it farther back to get my takeoff more out than under
2. Pressing with my left arm more at the plant, i almost touch my forehead with it!- I basically just use softer poles and consciously think about keeping separation (not a block though)
3. and keeping straight at the top. its hard to get more height out of the pole if your body is limp or in the wrong position when it throws you. -and again i just use soft poles to try to get my form down before going to bigger poles

Your jumps look great though! keep it up, i hope this helps!

@altius, what do you think of my takeoff? I have put in a lot of reps working towards a positive takeoff.

@trayoates, thanks man, I've been having a ball watching my vault evolve!

Given everything that preceded it the take off was not bad, possibly a bit flat because you did not really drive the hands high early enough or long enough - although difficult to really see with that that camera angle. But if you want to jump higher you must move to 16 steps but first you MUST improve your plant -presently it is a disaster. And there is no excuse for this because it can improved with simple drills that don't even have to done at the track. Not sure how committed you are, how much time you have, or really what you want to achieve but if you are serious - as you train, just tuck away the thought that Feofanova - at 5'3 and a little bit - jumped 16'.
