Hey Walrus,
When do you start to "pull like hell". When you know you are going to make the pit or when you start to sweep your trail leg or...
It looks like it's working. We have heard it discussed at length, by Agapit and vaultman18, who I know and respect, but now to know a vaulter's intention and see the result is inlightening.
Whaddya say?

Watch Tim Mack's gold medal vault !!! His vault looks just like yours, except for a bigger pole and higher grip Your technique looks great. You don't look down that much. Tim used that to load the pole FORWARD, and not UP!!! Keep up the good work!!!!'

Thanks for the kind words charlie. Todd, the best explanation i can give about the timing is that the pull and swing are initiated together, and the swing starts immediately after finishing the takeoff. I think altius would be best able to explain what finishing the takeoff entails. I tend to think of it as the follow through of the takeoff motions (such as the takeoff leg going back), but understand that those are my words so it might not be the best explanation. Its somewhere between swinging of the ground and hanging and waiting before swinging.

I didn`t notice any decrease in penetration, infact i notice an increase mostly, i think, due to in increase in aggressiveness. This is probably due to the decrease in complexity of the vault, an the fact that i was having more fun. I feel that i must include my opinion on pole selection, because i think some schools of thought may not be compatible with this model. Often other vaulters will tell me they need to get "used to the timing" when moving to longer poles. This is something i don't believe in. While the distance needed to cover from takeoff to theplane of the bar increases when going to a longer pole, so presumably does speed. I imagine that if you played one of the videos of me on a 13'6 195 next to video of bubka on a 17' pole we would initiate the swing, hit the "flat back" position, and release the pole at about the same time. In my opinion if you need to wait and delay the swing, then you are overgripping. Anyone wishing to try this technique who falls into the jump and wait category should begin on a smaller pole with a lower grip.

Finally, while i think everything i said follows agapits 640 model ( minimizing passive phases like the hang, and biofeedback), there is more to the 640 model that i have not incorporated, particularly at the plant. What i've given is my experiences with my interpretation of the model.

P.s. i wrote this on anandroid tablet,so i apologize for any misspellings.

P.S. My PR is 4.90, and I've only jumped that once this year. I'm not even doing the 6.40 model right (no free takeoff) and I'm still seeing huge improvements just from my swing. I'm a believer.

I believe in you Wally!

But that take-off mark is going to end up keeping you from really getting the whole "chain" of the 6.40. What is your current average mark, and where SHOULD it be?

Yeah you hit the nail on the head, I'm usually between 11 and 12', and I want to be at or around 12'6-13' I believe. Although in truth I probably need to get my takeoff back even more, since getting closer to a free takeoff would probably allow me to use a higher grip. I'd say 13' is the goal, and its really the only thing I'm working on right now. It needs to happen.
