Hey all
This is my first meet of the season after training through the first meet and cutting through my hand with a chef's knife the Wednesday before the second meet.
It's my third day of jumping from 8 rights, and I ended up getting on a 15'6" 170 carbon (18.3cm) gripping 14'9", but my only successful jump came when I was gripping 14'6" with the standards between 70-75. I had only managed to jump on a 160 (20.1cm) in the two previous practices before this meet. My take offs are between 11'3 and 12'2", with my 4-step mid at 36'9"- 37'6". To me I feel like I am low on my take off and allowing my hips to come through way too soon. But my opinions are biased, and I would love to hear what you guys think I should work on specifically before my meet this next saturday. Telling me what the problem is as well as a specific plan to improve would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

^ These were all my jumps, 2 attempts at 4.65 going from a 19.1cm to the 18.3cm pole I described above.

^ These are two slowed down jumps. the first is my make, and the last is my last attempt at 4.80 with the only thing different being a grip of 14'9" rather than 14'6" for the make. Thanks for the help.
Jason

Re: Critique on first meet
One follow up:
My dad emailed me a video that he took from my very last warm-up jump. I can see why he wanted me to look at it, it was probably my best technical jump on the day. It was on the 15'6" 165, a pole down from what I jumped 4.65m on. So i uploaded it here:

And slowed down the last 6 steps here:

Although under, I notice more than anything that it appears I jump up rather than in, much more in my warm-up than my meet jumps. Thanks to anyone that helps out!

Re: Critique on first meet
Think more about running over the take-off. You're right. It looks like you're getting in a hurry to get around on the pole as if you're trying to jump up when the pole's about to hit the box. You can't really finish your take-off because your hips are leading the way. Your bad position on the bottom doesn't let you get in sinc with the timing on the pole. Those are some pretty small poles compared to what you jumped on in high school. Those would have been your short run poles, but you got off the ground in a much better position then. You appear to be much faster now. What does that tell you?????....fix the take-off position!!!!!! Based on what I've seen you do in the past, you're more than physically capable of competing with all those guys in your conference. Do what has to be done. Don't make any excuses about how or why it's difficult to figure this out. Your elligibilty clock is ticking. Do it.
Good luck Jason P!

Re: Critique on first meet
Morry-
The two biggest things that surprised me when i watched this video was how fast I am, and how poor my take off position is.
Even in college, I don't know where I'd be without your advice Morry! More specifically- do you think I'm allowing too much stretch after take off? I've never really had a big problem with getting hit with my bottom arm in the face I don't think. I know that I could press more with my hands to try to stay behind the pole as I finish my take off, but is there anything else I should be thinking about while I practice this week? Thanks a lot. Hunter Hall set a goal for me next week, 5.05 to get this season really rolling again!
