Morning,
Good vaults, you have a bunch of things that would suggest to me that you can vault much higher than 12'.
You are bringing allot of speed on the runway, you have an okay sprint technique, not too much excess movement with your top within your run. Good pole drop, all in all this is all more or less good. The problem is I am seeing two vaulters here, the 14'er coming down the runway with nice strong run, nice body position, then at take off you sort of loose that and then you become the 12' vaulter we are seeing.
In terms of your top once you leave the ground, you need to keep fighting to get back, cover the pole, and get your hips higher. When you come off the pole you need to keep some more integrity within the core to come off the pole straight and tight. We want to pretend there is a hulla-hoop above the bar/pole that you want to go through and you need to go through that hulla-hoop, to make the bar.
I think you need more fiber glass both between you and the box as well as in the pole. You are lacking a front arm, yes you want your front arm to be relaxed but you still need to maintain integrity to prevent your nose being pinched off by your elbow. However, you may not be strong enough or have the technique to handle more fiber glass right now. I think you can actually jump 12' and clear it, but you should drop the run down to like 3Ls. That short of a run is going to take away your ability to over power the pole, make sure you to get both arms up to move the pole, as well as get in line with the pole and really learn to use your top end to make the bar. Then as you can use the top, start adding more grip and more fiber glass...
You are on a 13' 185... that's a whole lot of pole that you seem to be blowing away... With more grip you could probably rock a 14' 165, and you would get more out of that pole becuase of how tall you are, it will give you more time to move in the air. I think is has to do with how tall you are, I am shorter than you so, this is sort of my observations while watching guys taller than me pole vault. Being as tall as you are, griping low proportionally makes your body, a pendulum huge compared to the rest of the system, making is wicked difficult to be gymnastic and make bars. We don't want to OVER grip, but more grip will make the vault a little bit more easy for you because of your body type...
anyhoo, Just some thoughts, any one else agree disagree?
