This is a video of me jumping 5 m last year. There is alot of things in the video that I am trying to fix this year. Im am narrowing my grip, working on carrying my pole higher and developing a pole drop. (This hopfully will also allow me to jump up at take off, and fix the problem of overstriding and leaning back) Also I flagged out in this video but it was intential because I needed the jump to win and I was a little timid because of the rain. What I am not able and am hesitent to fix is my swing tuck style. I can swing a straight trail leg to the top but when I do I dont get in as deep as when I swing to tuck. In this jump I am holding 14'10 on a cut 16ft pole. So I soppose it could just be that I need a lower sail peice. (I also think the tuck style might allow me to be right side up for longer and then I use the tuck to catch up) Anyway tell me what you think of the techknique in the video.

Re: what do you think about the technique?
Morning,
Your notion with the tuck is a good idea to increase rotational movement, however if you clean up your upright integrity, arms/chest at take off and allow for more of a drive phase I don't think you need have to do that, and things will start to move quicker with less breakage at the hip. Some of your other videos you have a better chest/hip position after take off, but in this video I think your hips get sucked under too much forcing you to go to you back too quickly, fortunately you are strong enough to hold on to that and still pull out a vault. I agree you have a ridiculously wide grip, with the size pole you are using its a hindrance, you are blocking your self out and having to work a whole lot harder to get out of the bucket you're getting stuck in, even for Derek Miles that would be a wide grip. :-)
With your run you have the pole just above parallel for the majority of the run (that we can see). You are loosing a bit of energy with that, if you are holding something isometrically, that means the rest of your body is forced to counterbalance that tork. If you can figure out how to let the pole drop work to your advantage i think you will see you are going to be moving better on the pole and getting to catch a little bit more of it.
You have a few things that are not great BUT you have a bunch of things going right in your vault, I really enjoy the full step you are taking into the pole and how tight you remain on top. In my opinion if you pair that big step and tightness with better arm/hip movement before the fly away you are going to see a better position coming off the pole. Right now the pole seems to get away from you a little bit and you get into a little awkward position coming off just before flyaway. To me that looks like it is influenced by your movement right after take off, in the inversion phase... You vault well, I really enjoyed watching it.
hope that helps,
cheers
