few clips

Unread postby TylerPorter11 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 4:21 pm

Here's a video of me at practice, first two jumps is on a 16'1 165 holding at about 15'6 and the third and fourth clip is on a 15' 170.

Pitiful drive on the 16'1 pole, got it down I think on the 15 footer.

Let me know what you think.

Morning, These are just a few easy notable things that at quick glance I can tell you about, Youtube on my computer doesn't allow for frame by frame so...
You have many things that are going right in your vault and a bunch of things that are not going as well.
First your pole drop, you are relying too much on the front hand to guide the pole, as you drop your front hand the back hand gets pushed back and now the pole is way low and behind your head, this is no good. The pole needs to to remain high so your movement doesn't go down then have to transfer back upward. My suggestion would be to start the pole drop with the back hand moving a tick forward and up, so when the pole is parallel your top/back hand is next to your peck. Right now when the pole is parallel your hands are on your hips.

At take off you have a good step. however what happens directly after is no good. Your step is good nice out step, but your arms are a tick late, (this stems, a little, from the pole drop not being out in front) Your chest stops moving at take off, this causes problems with your hips throwing your pelvis forward and your hips getting sucked under. You can tell this happens even more when your back leg gets bent to allow for your hips to come forward.

So as your hips get sucked under and your chest doesn't move the whip like effect of the leg seems good however your energy is more directed downward and not so much up ward. This causes problems which throws you into a motion where your feet are next to your hands and your back is flat to the ground. Not a great position to be in... You want to start hitting the pole with the chest up, hips back and when the hips and come through, you should be aiming to lock off with the pole just below the knee preferably. But to do that you need a much stronger core and the ability the keep tension in the torso as you bubka through, rather than tuck.

You are pulling through and clearing big bars, but you are not doing a super job with that, if you look at the angle between your pole, bar height and where your peek height is, all the angles are not that great, When you come off the pole you need to be pulling through and coming off at a better angle like you are trying to fly through a hulahoop above the bar. You tuck and that is fine, but for that to be a successful method of vault you really need to create a whole lot of explosion with shoulders, arms, hips, as well as get the timing correct. So try and figure out the timing when to drop the shoulders and really star cranking on the top hand. You need a stronger core and better timing to be much more aggressive about coming off the top of the pole.

On some of your vaults you have a great step and take off but your eyes and chin appear to be down, the second that pole hits the back of the box you need for those eyes and chest to come up. You say you are holding at around 15' 6" that is a nice high grip however because you are not super clean on the bottom that isn't so great when coming to your pull through and the top end of the vault, Keep your hand grip there and fix other things before you stop dropping your hand grip. I say this because holding high is a difficult things to do safely. Once you figure out the timing and the pull though, you are going be jumping higher than 16' with much more ease. Looks like you a tall guy use that to your advantage with take off, when you start pulling through better and keeping a better body position, you can start pulling through 2+ feet.

There are a many positive things going on in your vault, and a bunch of things that are not going so well. Fix these things now so when the school year rolls around you can start jumping really high.

Hope that helps, cheers,
-bel.
