Kyle, I agree that this vid is a thing of beauty, and that he doesn't initiate the turn with his foot. So you have proven that there's other ways to successfully turn on the pole. I give you that, but I hold my position that a very viable alternative is as I described ... initiating with the foot. Bubka wasn't perfect on EVERYTHING! ;)

KYLE ELLIS wrote: The reason sometimes you see Bubka let go early is because alot of the time he blows through the pole and and comes off early to make the bar, He could go ahead and finish the top end and hit the bar off on the way up. Sometimes he doesn't move his grip in and has to come off the pole to clear the bar... Bottom line when you see the akward clearences it is because the pole was to big or too small, or something happened in his takeoff to throw off his timing.

I think you give Bubka far too much credit. So you're saying that (a) if he's going to blow thru the pole, he recognizes that early enough to release it early (to prevent that from happening); and (b) if the exact oppositie is true (he's stalling out) ... he ALSO recognizes that early enough to DO EXACTLY THE SAME "PREMATURE RELEASE" of the pole?

I agree that he's GOOD ... but he's not THAT good!

And the same remedy for two opposing problems? Come on ... gimme a break!

I have just read over the swing post by Agapit from a while back, and it seems that he believed that the vaulter begin pulling with the left hand immediately after the takeoff is complete. Like you would on a straight pole. I believe I mentioned it happening later in the vault, sorry but this is something i am still trying to figure out. I know when I jumped I pulled down the pole with my left pretty soon after takeoff.

Kirk, you were quite an instigator on that subject, lol ;)

Can you give me the link for that? There's so many posts about this topic that I'm not sure which one you're referring to.
