This sounds like quite a common issue that has some common solutions. I just don't know enough about the runup to advise, so I hope others can advise you on this.
Once you start hitting a good takeoff, then I can get back to giving you some additional advice about the rest of your vault.

Re: Updated footage for you all
From personal experience what helped me was making myself takeoff out about 4-5inches from 4lefts, after a month of doing this you really get used to having that free feeling at takeoff. It is hard to do it from the long run. Most people keep backing up until they stride out at the end forcing them on or slightly out.

Re: Updated footage for you all
so i feel that the reason why i was under, wasn't because my stride opened up, but because my legs were turning over faster and i was able to cover more ground.
Were you still able to increase turnover at the end of the run?
well i wasn't under by 3 feet on the first jump so i moved it back about 6 inches on every run (except near the end). that' more of what i was asking about (technique about properly moving a step back?)
{sigh} so yea, trial and error )=
Use the MID MARK CHART! Do you even have it marked? How else will you know how to adjust your step? Not by where your take-off foot is when you jump, SURELY!?
well you see, i kepy moving my step back but i get running harder and harder so it kept moving back. so each jump, i was only under by a few inches
This is exactly what the MID does for you... typically, when you're running 'harder and harder', you're increasing stride length, NOT cadence... this is bad, as you will quickly begin to overstride, slow down, and take-off under. If you ARE only increasing cadence, the start of the run should not be moved at ALL! Think about it!
Read up on how to use a MIDMARK. Then try it. Then tell us your story.

Good advice.
Joe, also read the thread "3 step pole vaulting" on the Training forum. VTechVaulter - a 5.63 vaulter - describes how he's working his way up from 1 left to 4 lefts, progressively over the past several weeks.
I find this very interesting, since I watched VTV clear 5.85 at the Alki Beach Vault on July 5. So less than 3 months later, he's starting his training for next year's indoor season with "the basics" 1-4 lefts. He also posted a vid of himself on the Video Review forum doing 12'5 (3.79). Naturally, the thread is called "me jumping 12'5".
All of this is reinforcement to you that if it's good for a 5.63 vaulter to do short run vaults this time of year, then it's even more beneficial for a 14' 0 (4.27) vaulter like yourself to do them. Actually, I continued to do short run vaults at least once a week right thru my entire competitive season each year, and it helped me a lot.

PP, you might be giving Joe some good advice here - I don't know. I've never used the MID MARK CHART either, so don't be so hard on Joe. He's asking for our help, so let's give it to him. I think it's unfair to expect him to sift thru the MID MARK CHART thread, separate the wheat from the chaff, and come up with all the proper conclusions.
While I also think that he should do SOME research, he does need some guidance, so let's give that to him.
My personal advice - if his coach has the time and inclination to do this - is for Joe to ask his coach if he would mind also researching the MID MARK CHART thread, and figure out how to help Joe interpret it.
No offense, PP, but the way you worded your advice, you come across a little "strong". Like your question: "Do you even have it marked?". Wouldn't it be more tactful to leave out the word "even"? It's the same question, but it changes the tone. Ditto with the word "SURELY". Even the capitalization changes the tone.
And Joe, please do your own research on the MID MARK CHART, but don't be afraid to let us know what you don't understand about it, and ask us some leading questions. One of us will be glad to walk you thru any areas that you find confusing. (I still don't quite understand it all.)

Re: Updated footage for you all
Maybe I was a little too harsh on poor ol' Joe six pack... I just get 'excited' a little too easily sometimes, and I usually either underutilize or abuse the emoticons!
I'll try to be 'softer' in the future!
Bubka would do hundreds of short approaches in the sand pit with a stiff pole throughout the season. If it's good enough for him... you know? Something's got to be good about these short vaults.
And KB, I'm still awaiting that post on the differences between your short vault and your full vault!

Yeh, I love short vaults too. I never did any sand vaulting in my day, but that sounds like a good idea too.
That's why Joe needs good advice from you, Kyle, and others about some of these things - I can't help him.

Well, between helping out Joe Six Pack and playing the role of a judge in the Animalympics , I got a little side-tracked this week.
Based on my current schedule, it's just going to have to wait another week - but I haven't forgotten!
