heavier poles

Unread postby Ajint_Smith » Fri Jun 13, 2003 12:18 pm

What do you think is the most important aspect in getting to poles 20 or 30 lbs over your weight?

strength? speed? jumping power?
The Matrix has you...

Speed at the takeoff and efficient takeoff technique. Strength has very very little to do with it.

efficiency period. the more efficient your run, the faster you can go more often. the more efficient your plant and takeoff, the more energy you can put into a pole(HEAVIER AND LONGER POLES). the more efficient your top end, the higher you can go on lighter poles. keep that last one in mind

def runway speed, high plant, good take off and knee drive. Although you say strength has nothing to do with it well i guess you could say this. But weight training will build power in ur take off, runway speed, push off, and the key word, CONFIDENCE! Weight training, sprint workouts, heavy pole runes, will def help u get on that bigger pole
hmmmm

Keeping the pole length with in reach

Keeping the pole length with in reach

What this means is keep the handgrip in the middle of the hand grip area ( 3" down and with in the 12" area)

POLE selection is crucial. Check out the pole calculator no matter the brand pole you buy.
Select a pole that is no taller than 6" than your Personal record,
example if you’re best is 12'6" use a 13' pole.
The object of pole vaulting is to use the pole to clear height than grip heights.
I love the PV, it is in my DNA

I guess I'll mimick what everyone else said! If you have good speed at the plant and plant nice and high and strong you should have no problem. Plus a good takeoff.
