Focus point?

Unread postby KYLE ELLIS » Mon Apr 19, 2004 1:12 am

Where do you guys focus at during the vault? I have always looked at the box and taken off a foot under or more from a long run! Im thinking about focusing beyond the pit or something! What are your guys take on this?

When I want to take off out I usually look in front of the box at about 7 or 6 feet when im about 30' away, I usually take off at 12' or beyond when I do that good.

So you look 6-7ft in front of the box? Where do look once you get to 6-7 ft from the box? Thanks for the info

i just kind of try to place my foot where I want to take off, I try to make myself out. kind of hard sometimes, once i get within 30 feet of the box I just look right at it i guess.

my eyes dont focus at a normal rate of speed, so I just stare at my 6-stride out mark, then barrel down the last 3 lefts. Funny thing, I've never missed the box even though its kinda blurry.

wanna have fun, put a heal cup or a postit note where your pole should hit when doing pole runs and se how many times you can hit it.

i've been coached to raise your head at the take off. focusing on the box or even the mats makes your head tip down and forward, looking up opens your body. try it, stand in the take off position with your pole in the box, look down at the box and feel the position....... then raise your head and look up, like between your hands, your entire body will raise... chest will come forward and up, it just makes for a great take off position.
try looking at hartwig and mack photos at take off.... their head is alwyas up and tall.

we have a gas station you would run into if you ran down the runway anymore and crossed the street...on the sign it says 'livers and gizzards available untill 5pm'. it is exactly straight ahead, so i always try to lift my head at takeoff and look at it. since our school is hosting d3 nationals this year, a lot of the vaulters will probably have to do the same. liftin my head helps me run through the box and not to, it also prevents me from striding any more than i do...
