Getting up and over

Unread postby bb12334 » Thu Jan 27, 2011 1:53 pm

So i have been pole vaulting for about 2 months now. I am using a 12ft 130 pole and am 5'6 and 130 lbs. I have recently started bending my pole and am getting good height but can't get inverted and do the proper motion for the top of the jump. My coach says that the problem is as soon as I take off i swing both my legs in front of the pole, and need to keep the drive and trail leg for longer. During meets when I do clear I have a very weird form of getting over. I end up turning sideways and then scissoring my legs over. Here is a picture of one of my worse jumps but it shows the way I get over. http://staplesrunning.com/photos/indoor ... C_3851.htm I can get my head almost up to an 11 foot bungee but then can never get my feet up and over it. I either do the weird form seen in the picture or end up not getting my feet up enough. Attached are several pictures of my jumps/warmups

Based on the pictures, it looks to me like you're trying to pull yourself up. You really don't want to do that, video would really help the most here, but my best suggestion is to work on your swing on the high bar. Try working on bubka's, as well as swinging bubka's. And when you take off, try to also keep your hands moving up.

First suggestion....put some padding on that wall!!

Second suggestion...try to post a video. Like the previous poster I would tend to think you are pulling up at take off. If nothing else, post a picture at take-off. Its next to impossible to give advise without seeing the entire vault.

Third suggestion.... You are 2 months along a journey that takes years for most. Be patient and just keep learning as much as you can.
