Without any video this is a hard question to answer. But like all things, the pole vault is not a linear thing. So just adding more pole and more run may not mean you will vault higher. You are adding a foot more pole, (I assume within the same brand) so the sail piece is going to be in a different spot than you are used to, the timing of the bend and where the bend is going to be different. SO if you are just matching grips it is going to be difficult to catch the pole in the same way.

Furthermore, if you are holding too low on a pole you actually take away the advantage of using the longer pole. So even if you matched grip, if you are holding 18 - 20 inches down on this 15' pole you may not be getting enough bend to actually use it...

Again without seeing your vault this is difficult to answer. BUT it sounds like a mechanical and timing issue.

Wait a sec ... that's quite a hop ... in fact, it's THREE hops down the relative stiffness chart. Don't you have any poles in-between these 2?

All you said was ...
jvt51091 wrote: ... i cant even get my hips above the pole ...

... so I thought you were having trouble bending the 15' 170. If THAT pole is still bending too much, then you have a totally different problem ... as you clarified in your last post.

So what do you mean when you say that you can't get your hips above the pole? How much are you bending, how deep are you landing, and how much are you extending? We need a better explanation of the problem in order to advise you. Guess I'll have to see your vid. :dazed:
