mystic v pacerfx

so one of my coaches always promised to buy a carbon pole once someone could jump 12' at our school. well i have successfully cleared 12' several times in practice and im just waiting for my next meet to make it officail. i am currently jumping on a 13' 160 pacerfx and i want to move to a 14' or 14'6" pole so i have plenty of room to progress this season and next. the thing is the shortest carbonfx made is 15' and i do not think i will be able to jump holding down at 12'6" (my current hand hold) on this pole as i don't want to get him to buy a $500 pole and me not be able to use it. i noticed some people at my last meet using carbon mystic poles, this confused me since they are marketed as a girl pole but you can get 14' and up in this model. so i was just wondering if there is a difference between a carbonfx and a carbon mystic. also do you think i should get a fiberglass pacerfx or a carbon mystic?

Get fiberglass. Your coach has very low goals if he is promising a boy a carbon pole for a 12' jump.

And don't even think of jumping from a 13' to a 14'6 pole. Your best bet would be a 13'6 pole before you go to the 14 footers. Plus, with the money your coach saves, he can buy you a new pole that much sooner.

I fail to understand why people think that carbon fiber poles are so much better than fiberglass...

If you've jumped on a type of pole and like it more than others, use that type. If not, then don't worry about it.

well my coach is an old one that doesn't technecally still coach but does everything a coach would for a track team and when he coached 12' was unbelieveable and our school record is only 12'6" (which i intend to break this year ).
also i have went up on my current pole very quick so i am afriad to get a 13'6" pole since i could get to the op of it midseason and not be able to improve every much after that. also i am not sure if coach will be able to buy a new pole next year for me since we are the typical high school that gives all the money to football and what little money we get for track doesn't go to pole vault
so what i guess i am tryin to say is it totally irresponsible to get a 14' pole instead of a 13'6" pole?

How much do you weigh, how tall are you, how old are you, what size 13' pole are you on now, how high are you holding it, and where do you usually have your standards?

i weigh around 150 im 5'9" tall i just turned 17 on january 17 im jumping on a 160 pole im holding around 12'6" and my standards are around 20

You don't even need to start thinking about a longer pole until you are knocking off the bar on the way up with your standards all the way back, and holding the max grip height on that pole.

I think a 13'6 160 would be a decent pole for you once that happens. It will feel about 10lbs stiffer and will react better than if you gripped down on a 14' 150.

Yeah, you might need more than one pole if you keep improving. That's a good thing, it means you are improving, but the downside is the cost. Start making friends with other vaulters and see if you can borrow poles before you go out and buy one.

hey thanks for all your help
its kinda hard to get help with this stuff at my school since i know the most about pole vaulting there
my coach helps me when i ask but he has to deal with all the other track atheletes too

and about borrowing poles the thing is like my school has the best pole vault stuff in our conference
the only poles i have seen other schools use are old and beat up so its hard to find someone to borrow poles from
