Implimenting a free takeoff?

Ok, so from reading on here, I learned that you have to be a bit "off" to get a good free take off.
So my question is, if you have to be a bit off to get a good free take off, do you adjust your mark a bit back?
And I also have another one.
Since you drop the pole on the box before it hits the back, does this mean that the pole should be on the floor on your penultalitive(sp) last step, or second to last step?

1. What do you mean by 'off'? You mean 'out', I'm sure... You're headed in the right direction, and it's good that you're asking free take-off questions. There is an easy misunderstanding that I'm sure that even many knowledgable, "Petrovian" coaches might have. If you mean 'out' as in behind the plumb line from the top of the pole to the ground, you're incorrect in your thoughts. If you mean 'out' as in behind the mark from where the plumb line would be if the pole tip was at the back of the box, you are right. Take-off 'on' with regards to the plumb line, take-off 'out' with regards to the box.
2. They are the same thing... The pole should be in the air at the penultimate step, and it should still be in the air AFTER the take-off step. Maybe I misunderstood your question?

Yeah, I still don't get either response. LOL
But I'm starting to get curious on the free takeoff, and decided to start trying it.
And I meant, off, as in out, but as in my step. Maybe I don't understand what the term means?
So, if I get this right, the pole should still be in the air, even after I take off?

Yes. Buy BTB2, and SEARCH THE SITE!!! Look at my previous post a little more carefully and try to understand it more. PM me to keep this conversation going. This topic has been beaten many times before, but I enjoy the rush I get when I get a PM
, and I'm willing to help you out if you're confused. But SEARCH! There's another board I'm on that would possibly BAN someone for asking info on a topic as covered as this!

I recommend getting BTB and begin implementing by following the learning progressions presented. Get the book from Becca..
