Characteristics of an Efficient Vaulter(?)

Unread postby Haverford123 » Sat Dec 01, 2007 7:19 pm

ive been trying really hard to learn how to become an efficient vaulter, in other words jumping over my grip... I realized that many high school vaulters simply switch to a larger or longer poles without even jumping their grip... but i heard that vaulters should be able to jump over well over their grip...

Also... if the pole is shorter.. does that mean the push off is also going to be shorter?

there are so many questions to ask.. but this is the main qusetion i wanted to ask... how to become as efficient as possible, and some of the things you guys do to maintain efficiency,
Thanks!

Jump "the list." Start with a 9'10 grip from 33'0 at 8'0 - this will be six steps. Once you clear it, move to the next setup - 10'2, 34'0 start, 8'6 bar. Don't move on until you clear each bar with the given grip and run. If you takeoff under it doesn't count. Lay a towel across the runway in front of your takeoff foot, and if you step on it, it doesn't count, so "get your feet down" behind it. When you can no longer pentrate into the pit with the given grip and run, move back a stride (10-12 shoes) but leave a mark for the 6 step/mid mark next to the runway. Now, you must 1) clear the bar, 2) hit your takeoff mark, and 3) hit the mid mark all before you can move on.

If you hold yourself to the numbers, you'll go from "pole-rider" to "pole vaulter" more quickly and easily. This really does work.
