What distance for your mid mark?

I know not everyone uses the "real" middle of their run for their mid mark. For officiating I just purchased a "mid mark lay out" and after using it for the first time this past week end, it seems the marks on this strip of numbers were kind of close to take off. The marks go from 31' to 39'. So my question is what is your mid mark? Thanks!

That would work well for us since we use a mid that is 4 strides out. We have something like that at my high school.

For 4 step mids, I would guess you might see the following ranges:

Average HS girls: 26'-33'
Average HS boys: 28'-35'
Advanced HS girls/average college women: 29'-34'
Advanced HS boys/average college guys: 33'-38'
Elite women: 33'-37'
Elite men: 38'-42'

33' is REALLY close, I'm an average college guy who has a close mid and I'm around 36'8". I've seen good college guys with mids behind 40' tho.

I am a 4'11" high school girl on a six step, and my midmark is about 27'6". Hope this helps!

You are on the upper end of average college guys. Look through the results sometime and there are a solid number of college guy vaulters who jump less than 13'.

Thanks all for your input. Guess this "number strip" will work for almost everyone. Thanks again.

I know a high school guyand a college guy with no much difference in speed who hit 37 or 38 (high school) and 31-33 (college). It all depends on your stride length from what i can tell.

There is a huge gap in thinking about mid marks. We use the six stride mid mark. For college kids that usually ranges from 40 (a 12 foot grip) to 55 (elites 16' 4" grip).

Yeah that is one of the hard things for an official trying to help out with placing mid marks for the coaches. Some use 4 and some use 6 step mids.

I would encourage all officials to be lenient in regards to rules permitting athletes to only use 2 marks, and not count it toward the individual athlete if the coach places a series of mid marks down (provided the marks themselves fall within the rules).

I think the only time I ever really had problems with the 2 mark rule was at NAIA Nationals. Indoors.
