Most of the obvious things have been presented already. I'm a big one for "where the problem first appears is caused by what happened just before". DJ's mid mark chart and exercises around it will get that take off point more in line where it should be. I also noticed that at about the mid mark she started leaning forward in her run. Yes she does look at the bar. I noticed it in all of the jumps. Because I'm a "bar watcher" myself, that's the first thing I look for when I look at videos. I have even gone as far as putting a rubber ball smiley face on the top of my pole and won't allow myself to look anywhere else once I take off until I find and recognize the smiley face on top of my pole. As I believe someone said already, she is "late" on every aspect of her jump and that can cause a "bar watching" scenario because she feels she has to "catch up to the jump. That starts at the top of the runway. Five or six lefts is plenty for most high school vaulters, girls or boys.(I don't count take off as a left). I can see your dilemma with the fact that she might not be motivated to work on improvements because she's winning most meets now, but I get the feeling that she does listen to you and tries to "get it". See if you can get her to do this inversion exercise that is on Bubba's website. You can find it at http://www.bubbapv.com/Pages/drill.htm . Good luck. Seems like you've got a good one there. Later..............Mike

hey

yes.. it appears she leans because of her pole carry and the rythm of the run..

left wrist up.. left elbow down slightly.. right hand at the right hip/waist band..

20/20's over the last 4 to 6 steps..

someone else explain the 20/20's

i call the last 4/6 steps a "piston" action.. i don't know that everyone gets that.. kind off like running fast "in place" but covering (for her) about a 4'10" or 5 foot stride on each of the last 6 to takeoff..

looks like she can be a good jumper..

You can find an explanation of the 20/20 drill in my 'database' thread in the 'training' forum.

I've noticed that about her run too. We just started doing 20/20s last week and incorporating it into her run. When the meet came around, I just told her to go out and jump, so she wasn't showing any signs.

Catching up to the vault makes sense to me.
