Help moving up on poles

Unread postby fabio989898 » Sun May 09, 2010 8:06 pm

hey so i have been vaulting on a 13'6" 175 pole and i weigh right around 175 and i hold at the top and i cleared 13 feet the other day and i have been trying to move up to a 14' 175 pole but i cant get into the pit at all i stale out and go to the right. I have tried holding at the same spot as my 13'6" on my 14' and running from my same 6 step and i have tried holding at the top of the 14' from a little bit farther back from my same six step and i have tried holding at the top of it and running a 7 step but it just doesnt seem to be working. I have noticed some jumps i can get about a foot into the mats but its not safe. I feel like i could get 13'6 on my 13'6 pole but i am wondering what you guys think. Any help is appreciated.

Maybe it's not time to move up poles yet...
are you knocking off the bar on the way up?
with the standards all of the way back?
and landing deep in the pit?

If the answer is no to those questions, then you don't need to move up poles yet.

i only have my standards at 26 in so 66 cm and i land safely in the around the middle of the mat. so you think that i should still be able to get higher on my 13'6 pole?

Definitely. Don't move up poles until you have the standards all the way back and are knocking it off on the way up.

When you do move up poles, only raise your grip an inch or two, don't just hold the top of the other pole.
