New pole

Unread postby Rudym13 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 8:39 pm

Last saturday at my meet I weighed in at 105 lbs. and i vaulted a PR of 11' 6'' on my 12' 120 pole. my coach says i should go up a pole so I was wondering what the next pole would be. At out school we have a 140 14' that a senior grew out of, and a 140 12' that I have to order a new pole tip for.
what should me next pole be? Should i try to use one of the used ones or just order one myself?

Are you a boy? If so, you are probably at the stage where you are moving up poles pretty quickly. Once you are hitting off the bar with the standards all the way back, and landing pretty deep in the pit, you could probably go to the 12'140 pole.

The 14' pole is much much bigger, see the chart Kirk posted. Your school will probably need to buy you some 13' poles first. Maybe a 13'140 and 13'150.

If you were a girl, I would say maybe try to get a 12'130 to borrow or whatever.

It's tough to say without seeing video.

Wait you're used to a 12' 120 pole and you're going to try to get on a 14' 140?

That's a huge change, and even holding down low on the 14 it'll be far too stiff. If anything, move to the 12' 140 first.

I'm a junior vaulter and i've been jumping on either a 12' 140 or 12' 150 my entire career, my coach had me move to a 14' 140 and i must say it was much stiffer and i am no longer seeing the success i once did. I would advise moving up weight before length.
