Hanson second at meet

Phil Hanson competed in the invitational-only Pole Vault Summit at Rolling Meadows last weekend.

The Pontiac Township High School senior came home with a second-place finish after clearing the bar at 16 feet. He went out after just missing at 16-7.

Hanson was a qualifier in the pole vault for the state finals track and field meet each of the last two years, including finishing second last year after clearing 15-3.

The 2006 track season officially opens March 25 at the Cogdal Relays. Pontiac's first home meet will be the Livingston County Invitational on April 20. The Pontiac Relays is set for April 25.

Um, let me add too, that this kid was way over 16-7 on his last attempt. I wouldn't over look him. This guy can jump just as high as Jake Winder, the only advatage Jake had, was that he is used to going for bars that are 16+. And don't get me wrong, Jake is a very talented jumper ;)
