OTTAWA - Whitney Didier had nothing to lose, and she liked the feeling.
The Dixon senior had already wrapped up a trip to state and a sectional championship on Saturday in the pole vault. Nobody but Didier had cleared 10 feet, and she wanted to see just how high she could go.
Didier cleared 10-foot-6 on her first try, six inches higher than she or any other Duchess has vaulted before. Before she even hit the padded landing area, she was grinning ear-to-ear as her fists clenched in celebration.
"Six inches is pretty exciting," said Didier, who also qualified in the event as a sophomore before a disappointing miss last spring. "I knew it was there for me, but I was still pretty amazed."
