Does anyone have any good information on how to high jump? Any good videos that teach you step by step? I know some of the basics but do not know the technical parts about what the jumper should be thinking about trying to do with their feet, arms and body at the run and take off. Should last strides be longer or shorter, and should you have a quick last step or push into the take off leg? I am trying to train a multi guy this summer and that is pretty much one event I know nothing about.

Thanks!

hey

there is a lot of good info on YouTube...

also the 8' jump of Sotomeyor... rhythm, postured start with the last four steps ...!!accelerated.. like running up a short flight of stairs...

boom...boom..boom.boom

jump vertical and drive the lead knee ----- up... hard and in the direction of the far standard... when the curve is correct the jumper will turn automatically around the vertical axis... until the arms "open" ... by then you are "back to the bar" and should be rotating around the hips horizontal axis.. into a backbend/back flip...

the best way to learn or work on the approach is to run down the right basketball lane line and curve in the last 4 steps and dunk a ball, tennis, volleyball etc... if you are not jumping that high tapping the net with the right arm for left footed jumpers is good.. make sure you "travel" before and after the jump... don't run in "stop" -jump- and come down under the net...

keep adding speed so your takeoff is farther out and you land further past the goal/net...
