We want to do a double at King's, but we will have to find a hammer somewhere, and improvise on the steeple. My coach is talking about taking an old piece of high jump pit, and soaking it with water, for the steeple water pit. Mmmm not sure what we would use for barriers!

Could be fun :P No way I would do it though! I have yet to do all the events in a regular deca ;)

Doubling up

Competing in one decathlon is grueling enough. Two in two days? Some might classify that athlete as nuts.

"It's definitely kind of a cool concept, when you really think about it," Liberty track and field coach Brant Tolsma said. "It hasn't caught on that big because it is kind of insane."

Tolsma, along with about 40 other athletes from nine countries, will compete in the Double Decathlon World Championship at LU Friday and Saturday.

Defending open group champion Shaun Meinecke of the U.S. will compete, as will four-time Olympian Georg Werthner of Austria.

The U.S. will host the event for the first time. Austria, England and Finland also have hosted.

Friday, athletes will compete in the 100-meter dash, 400, 800, 5,000, long jump, 200 low hurdles, shot put, hammer throw, high jump and 3,000 steeplechase.

Saturday, the event closes with the 200, 1,500, 3,000, 10,000, 110 high hurdles, 400 hurdles, javelin, discus, pole vault and triple jump.
