Re: 6.08m first attempt
Nice!
It didn't take long for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaud_Lavillenie to get updated:
Have you noticed that the higher he vaults (these past few years) the smoother he swings (less of a pause as the pole rolls forwards)?
Yes, this is a plug for the Petrov Model. Remember the backyard vaults he did where there was no discernible pause at all?

As of January 2014, he holds the French national records for the highest pole vault clearance both outdoors (6.02 m) and indoors (6.08 m). His indoor clearance of 6.08m is the second-highest personal best indoor clearance of all time.

Re: 6.08m first attempt
Must be good - he is now top of the OZ rankings!
Its what you learn after you know it all that counts. John Wooden
Re: 6.08m first attempt
by calculator that comes out to 19' 11 1/4" that's Awesome. Made it easily too.
He will break Bubka's record if he doesn't get injured.

Didn't over block and got an EARLIER up and off the pole. He will break the record with that plant and same vault!!!!

On the french TV (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ax10 ... de-2_sport) Renaud said a few things:
- he and his coach think his jump was worth 6,11 without touching the bar, maybe 6,12 or 6,13 with a nice bar that stays
- at the end of his training sessions, he puts an elastic at 6,20 or 6,25, to get used to "high" bars
- he has a new PB at his home pole vault (he has 25 m to run) 5,90, it was 5,84 last year

Video footage from front : http://youtu.be/5JVEE3MJgG0?t=45s
from back: http://youtu.be/RzNJKe8xOsA
To build on previous message, his backyard pit has a short run-up, but it looks slightly downhill.

Doesn't the downhill start give somewhat of an advantage?

What Sergei said about this incredible performance :
"This is fantastic. And it's not 6.01 m or even 6.02 m but 6.08 m! It's really exciting, a very very high level ... And (it feels like Bubka is smiling through the phone) that makes him the second best performer of all time! Since last year, he seems to be more regular and constant at a very high level. He really is above all others, he's by far the strongest. If he can beat my record this year? Why not? I know it will happen and, as an athlete, as a personality, as a man, Renaud may succeed. 6.08 m is not only a big height, it's another world altogether. Above 6.05 m we're in another dimension, and Renaud will go higher and higher. Technical changes he's currently conducting require some acclimatization, but it's one of the reasons for his improvement."
