Tatiana a natural to jump to motor sports

For Australian Olympic pole vaulter Tatiana Grigorieva the aim has always been higher. Now it's faster - much faster.
Tatiana recently took a performance road driving course at the Holden Performance Driving Centre on the Gold Coast to test her aptitude for a potential move into motor racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup in the future.
Tatiana’s Gift for Dreams Foundation is Carrara Cup’s official Charity Partner. They are working together to develop motor sport scholarships for disadvantaged young Australians.
The champion athlete showed a talent behind the wheel when she competed in the 2.0 litre all-female celebrity race at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide in April 2001 and placed second to Natalie Lowndes, wife of Craig. Tatiana also achieved the fastest lap time.
Born in Russia and now a Gold Coast resident, she chose the Holden Performance Driving Centre to evaluate her skills and won a glowing report from driver trainer and general manager Russell White.
Tatiana, whose daily driver is a mid-size four-wheel drive, describes herself as a driving enthusiast rather than a car enthusiast.
"I did a lot of driving when I am training in Germany and Italy," she said.
"I've driven faster on the German autobahns than I did racing in Adelaide and found that Italy especially demands a very specific type of precise driving.
"I'm not really a car enthusiast - I just love driving and I really enjoyed the celebrity race in Adelaide.
"So I decided to come out to the Holden Performance Driving Centre to find out if I had the kind of aptitude to take it further."
According to the centre's Russell White, she does.
He found that like many other top athletes, her familiarity with training enabled her to pick up concepts and switch to correct behaviours very quickly. However, she also displayed a natural talent which shone through on the circuit.
"Tatiana's good - very good," he said. "She picked up in an hour things that can take some people days."
Michael Georgalli from the school of Human Movement Studies at QUT and founder of the Fit2Drive program agrees. “Tatiana possesses all physiological and psychological attributes required to be competitive performance driver.â€Â
