Decamouse tells me that Burgess jumped 5.95 today. I'll post results, articles, etc when I get them.

Alex Parnov (his coach) tells me those pictures are of his last attempt at 6 meters! Unfortunately he just barely brushed the bar on the way down.

WOW

That is HUGE!!! That is a definite testament to those who think they need to grip higher to jump higher! Lets see, 4.91-18=4.73 is his grip in the box, so 5.95-4.73=1.22 meter push off! Once again that is huge. Amazing actually......Easily one of the most outstanding jumps ever. Congratulations to Paul Burgess.

YAY for a great Aussie guy!!!!! It's great to see an Australian jump so high, it's been a little while since we've made an impact on International standard competition.....but hopefully that's changing......

I'm guessing the jump was at the WA state champs which would probably not be a huge event, athletics has quite a small profile in WA (I mean, for that whole big state, they only have 1 athletics track!) And the photos appear to have been taken by someone sitting in the main grandstand and therefore any spectators are not visible. To the best of my knowledge, the stands you can see are NEVER used!!!
