MONTE CARLO, Monaco (AP) -- Portland has been chosen to host the 2016 World Indoor Championships.
Track and field's governing body on Friday also awarded the 2018 world indoors to Birmingham, England, after it was beaten for 2016 rights.
Portland's organizing committee plans to create a temporary track at the Oregon Convention Center for the three-day meet in March of 2016.
The United States last held a senior track and field world championship in 1987, when Indianapolis staged the indoor event. Birmingham hosted the world indoors in 2003.
