COMPLETE MADNESS SPORTS
Press Release - October 18th 2004
Melbourne, Australia.
Over a 3 day period CMS athletes set a series of personal bests across a variety of events.
First off the rank was Sarah Riseley, who showed she is recovering from her knee surgery earlier in the season when she broke her 400m personal best clocking 74.6 seconds at the State Interschools Championships. She followed this up with 2nd place in the 100m, winning the high jump with 1.35m and finally anchoring her school (Flinders College) to second place overall in the 4x100m. She then went and did the allocated training for the day!
Claire Wheaton retained her Girl Schools Victoria (GSV) title and set a new record, but most significantly dipped under the 14 second barrier for the first time in her life, clocking 13.96s on a cold and windy night at Doncaster. With her sights set firmly on tripling up at the National Schools in the 90m and 200m hurdles as well as the pole vault (for which she is already qualified) Claire is hoping to dip below 13.7s and 30.5s respectively.
On Saturday Claire and Sarah joined up with their fellow Melbourne University team mates, also coached by Complete Madness Sports, and took out three first places across 3 age groups, and saw one of their training partners set another personal best.
Karina Thompson put her disappointment from only managing 2.00m at the University Games, and 3rd place, she extended her personal best to 2.70m an increase of 10cm on her previous best, and set on a new pole purchased from ESSXSports two days earlier. "It was good to use the new pole, I have been struggling to go up to the pole after this one, so I am happy we have this one for me to work on, I should have jumped 2.85m, and so should Claire and Sarah, so it will be a good battle to see who can get to 3m first!", said Karina afterwards.
Claire backed up her hurdles from the night before with another 2.70m jump, and very close effort at 2.85m, as well as clocking 14.04s into a headwind for the hurdles. Sarah cleared 2.70m in flats from 6 steps, and came close to 2.85m after moving up poles, so she was not unhappy with her result, whilst Adele came from a 2 hour technical training session with Karen Sheehan and Irie Hill to set her second 3m jump of the year. Karen set an 8 step pb of 2.00m, but was disappointed after jumping 2.50m in the morning session.
