Otto records world-leading jump in pole vault in Athens
By George Georgakopoulos
Germany's Bjoern Otto recorded the world's leading performance in the men's pole vault at the Athens Street Pole Vault event that took place at Zappio, in central Athens, on Saturday afternoon.
The silver medalist in the London Olympics and at the 2012 European Championships cleared 5.83 meters at his third attempt, to go one centimeter above the year's record registered a week earlier by Greek champion Costas Filippidis in Qatar.
Filippidis was second in Athens on Saturday, clearing 5.73 m.
This was the first time this even was organized at the capital's city center and secured the interest of a high number of Athenians, even though it took place in the scorching heat of a hot afternoon
