WJ Qualifications

Qualification leaders Valeriya Volik and Vicky Parnov share the best-ever age 16 mark of 4.40 (14'5"). Parnov had 4.32 (14'2") at age 15 and 4.15 (13'6") at age 14.

Watertown pole vaulter advances to finals in IAAF World Junior meet

WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) - A pole vaulter from Watertown has advanced to the finals of the 12th International Association of Athletic Federations World Junior Championships track and field meet in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Leslie Brost cleared 12 feet, 9.75 inches Tuesday to reach the women's pole vault finals, scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. Central.

Brost is 1 of 6 vaulters to reach the finals. Joining her are Vicky Parnov of Australia, Ann Katrin Schwarz of Germany, Petra Olsen of Sweden and Ekaterina Kolesova of Russia, who all cleared 13-feet, 1.25 inches. Brost and Ariane Beaumont-Courteau of Canada each cleared 12 feet, 9.75 inches.

Brost, a 2008 Watertown High School graduate, is a 3-time South Dakota state Class AA champion and the state pole vault record holder.
