My memory of the vault is of him hitting it on the way down also, but I just watched it a week ago and it is clean.

Hey Bubba

Thought I might throw in a few tid-bits…you didn’t mention the reason bubka had to run from 16 steps was because of the short runway.. and because he had to adjust his run he had steve miller, who worked for nike at the time “catchâ€Â

OOPS! Thanks for the correction, Alan. My recollection was that he hit the bar hard on that jump - but I should have checked the video. It must have been on an earlier clearance. Anyway - he almost didn't make it to the awards stand in 1988!

Howdy DJ

Every time I have initially disagreed with you (especially when you coached me before South Africa) I've always been proven wrong so I just gave up and started asking you and then listening. One sign of a good coach or athlete is the willingness to abandon certain beliefs when proven wrong. Thanks to all of you for keeping my mind open!! Bubba

He answered both by saying that he has seen Bubka rep 21' in practice

So did bubka jump that over a cross bar or a bungee?

well this one time, standing next to Bubka in line at a meet, he told me that he jumped a 30 ft bungee, well he didnt say he 'cleard' it, but he said he just grazed it....

[quote="dj"]Hey Bubba

but they did not/do not have the horizontal speed at take off to create the proper parabola on the jumps they were/are that high in the air.. but do we change the model to fit a slower athlete… no we teach the “modelâ€Â
